The mysterious “Pierre Poutine” who launched misleading robocalls into Guelph, Ont., on election day also recorded another voice message in support of the local Liberal candidate in the riding.

Court documents filed Friday also show that the suspect at the centre of the vote suppression scandal referred to someone in the Conservative Party when he spoke to the owner of RackNine, the Edmonton voice-broadcasting company used to send the robocalls.

The apparently fake Liberal message was uploaded to RackNine, along with a misdirecting fake Elections Canada call, but never sent.

The second recording was revealed in a sworn statement by Al Mathews, the Elections Canada investigator leading the probe into more than 7,600 robocalls ? more than previously reported ? directing voters to the wrong polling stations on election day.

According to Mathews, the second message “had the appearance of being in support of the Frank Valeriote (Liberal Party) campaign in Guelph. The voice sounded to me as though computer generated rather than a script read by a person.”

Poutine had set up a call display number with RackNine, also not used, that corresponded to Valeriote’s campaign office during the election. The suspect later deleted the Valeriote call but the recording was retained on the company’s server and provided to Elections Canada.

The strange call in support of Valeriote raises the possibility that Poutine had intended to use the synthesized voice message to annoy the Liberal candidate’s backers. In other ridings, numerous voters have complained of live calls, some of them rude or aggressive, that purported to come from Liberal candidates’ campaigns late at night or early in the morning.

A spokesman for Valeriote said Friday that their campaign has never used RackNine.

“At no point during the election did Frank Valeriote’s campaign use the services of RackNine, nor was the campaign aware of the company until recently,” said Daniel Arsenault, the MP’s constituency assistant.

“Elections Canada officials have played the recording to Mr. Valeriote in a recent meeting in which he confirmed that the recording was not from his campaign and is unaware who made it. Mr. Valeriote and his campaign have been open about all calls made during the campaign.”

The Elections Canada investigation into the Guelph robocalls has focused on the campaign of Conservative Party candidate Marty Burke, who earlier this week denied any knowledge of who placed the calls.

According to Mathews’ statement, RackNine owner Matt Meier said he was under a contract with the Conservative Party during the 2011 election that did not allow him to do business with other parties.

Meier said the “Pierre” who opened the account with his company two days before the election “referred to knowing someone in the Conservative Party” and had called on Meier’s unlisted extension, asking for him by name. The documents do not indicate the name of the Conservative.

“In Meier’s view, these facts meant that someone must have given Pierre his contact information,” Mathews wrote in the Information to Obtain a production order on Dec. 12.

Meier did not know his service was being used to send out the misleading calls and is co-operating with Elections Canada.

In an email to Meier, the customer had said he was a University of Ottawa correspondence student living in Joliette, Que., a town northwest of Montreal. He signed his emails “Pierre.”

Meier said the Pierre account, assigned customer number 93, gave a PayPal account registered to Pierre Jones of 54 Lajoie Nord in Joliette.

There’s a Royal Canadian Legion at 56 Lajoie Nord. A woman working there on Friday said there is no 54 Lajoie Nord. Next door to the Legion is a paint shop and a pizza parlour.

The production order issued by the court in December was used to compel eBay International and its subsidiary, PayPal Canada, to provide details of the PayPal account used to pay for Poutine’s RackNine robocalls.

The account was registered to someone using the email address pierres1630(at)gmail.com.

The order required PayPal to turn over account details, transaction history and the IP address used by pierre1630(at)gmail.com, whenever he or she connected to the payment company’s servers.

Documents filed in court in Ottawa Friday morning show that PayPal gave Mathews credit card information, activity logs and transactions logs corresponding with the account. The electronic records were turned over in three batches, the most recent only on March 7.

Mathews’ statement says the fake Elections Canada message went out to 7,676 numbers between 10:03 and 10:14 the morning of election day, including callbacks to unanswered numbers. The calls, at RackNine’s rate of 1.9 cents per call, cost $162.10.

An earlier media report, citing Conservative sources, said that Poutine sent only 5,053 calls in Guelph, and about 100 to other Ontario cities, perhaps as the result of a data list with bad entries. It is not clear what accounts for the inconsistency between the number of calls.

Poutine had uploaded a filed named “supporters” that had 6,738 phone numbers, including one for the disposable Virgin Mobile cellphone the suspect used.

Mathews said he had interviewed 18 people in Guelph in May who had reported the misleading Elections Canada calls. Phone numbers belonging to all but one of them show up the phone list Poutine uploaded.

Data provided to Mathews by Meier showed that customer 93 logged into RackNine 13 times on May 1 and May 2 ? election day ? including two unsuccessful attempts caused by entering the wrong password.

Meier told Mathews Pierre Jones claimed to be a University of Ottawa student, but Mathews checked with the university’s protective services and could find no record of a student with that name. He concluded the name and the address in Joliette also appeared to be false.

Annoying calls made to appear to originate with a political opponent are one of the techniques dubbed “ratf—ing” by political operatives in the U.S., who used them to discourage supporters of Democratic presidential nomination challenger Edmund Muskie before the Watergate scandal.

The documents do not describe the script used in the unsent call supporting Valeriote.

What is probate?
Probate is a court-supervised process for transferring a deceased person???s assets to the beneficiaries listed in his or her Will.
Probate helps to distribute your assets after you have died. There are well-defined rules that are followed, and the Court is very good at resolving estates; however, there are some major disadvantages to Probate.
One disadvantage is that Probate is a public process. There is no privacy. Your estate plan and the value of your assets will become a public record. In addition, because lawyer fees and executor commissions are based on a statutory fee schedule, a probate will cost more than the management and distribution of a comparable estate under a living trust.

Probate Cost

Probate fees are about 5% of the estate; $8,000 for an estate of $150,000; $46,000 for an estate with a gross value of $1,000,000. Then add an additional 4% for attorney fees and if there is a house, another 1% for establishing the appraised value.
For many, a Trust has many advantages, but it cannot accomplish everything. A Living Trust cannot avoid income tax (although estate taxes and Probate fees may be reduced or eliminated). During your life, you have full use and powers over the Trust. For tax purposes, since you still retain control, you are considered to be the owners of the Trust. Therefore, you are taxed on all income from Trust property on your regular tax return. No annual tax return is needed for the Trust.

Almost everyone should have a Trust.

NEW YORK – The commercial success of recent Tony-winning revivals of Fences and A Raisin in the Sun made it clear there’s a well-heeled African American audience largely under-served by the standard Broadway menu. So it seems a savvy move to enlist Kenny Leon, director of those earlier productions, to stage a comedy-drama that wrestles with the problems of an Upper Middle Class black family. It’s just too bad that the play, Lydia R. Diamond’s Stick Fly, is such scattershot entertainment. 
Produced at regional theaters but unseen in New York, Stick Fly is the theatrical answer to that wave of upscale black screen representations that span from Waiting to Exhale through films like Brown Sugar and Something New to the non-Madea Tyler Perry entries. It digs a little deeper into issues of race, class and gender politics in black relationships. But at heart this is a sitcom-soap hybrid that often serves to show how wealthy dysfunctional African American families can be every bit as tiresome and self-involved as their white counterparts. It says something about the playwright’s sympathies that the most warmly drawn character is the maid’s daughter, and the play becomes most compelling when she’s centerstage.
Setting is the LeVays’ grand old house on Martha’s Vineyard. Via an ancestor in shipping who saved the Mayor’s son from a boating accident, they became the first black family to own real estate on the island and remain one of the few non-white clans not clustered in the less-pedigreed Oak Bluffs section.
Brothers Flip (Mekhi Phifer) and Kent (Dulé Hill) have independently chosen the same weekend to introduce their partners to the family. Cocky plastic surgeon Flip (“I do tits and faces”) is prepared for sparks given that his girlfriend Kimber (Rosie Benton) is pure WASP, albeit with sensitivity about the socioeconomic divide. Kent is the underachiever. Up to now a directionless perpetual student, he has had his first novel accepted for publication, thanks in part to the emotional support of Taylor (Tracie Thoms).
The daughter of a now deceased distinguished black intellectual who moved on to a second family and left her behind with her mother, Taylor has had some doors opened to her. But not enough to keep a giant chip from settling on her shoulder. An entomologist — which accounts for the undercooked metaphor of the play’s title — she’s unaccustomed to the LeVays’ level of affluence.
Much of the early friction comes from sibling rivalry, a clash between the girlfriends, and from Kent chafing at the lack of respect from his father, Joe (Ruben Santiago-Hudson). A neurosurgeon who turns on the charm offensive for the ladies, he is arrogant indifference personified. It’s clear from Mom’s conspicuous absence that something is askew. But unlike most of the audience, none of the characters see trouble coming in the form of 18-year-old Cheryl (Condola Rashad), who has been sent to cover for her ailing mother, the family’s longtime maid.
Whether she’s juggling domestic tasks while receiving alarming updates about her mother’s health or being handed a bombshell concerning her parentage, Rashad’s Cheryl has a realness in short supply elsewhere. The daughter of Phylicia Rashad, the actor’s only significant previous New York stage experience was in the Pulitzer winner Ruined. But she commands attention with grace, humor and naturalness compared to the effortful work of the more seasoned cast members. She quietly hits every droll note of resentful attitude beneath the polite execution of her duties, and taps into a deep emotional well when the family secret tumbles out.
Benton is also sharp and funny. Thoms has affecting moments, but is too busy indicating everything in a self-consciously physical performance that becomes exhausting to watch. While Hill (The West Wing) has plenty of stage credits on his résumé, his work, along with that of Thoms and Phifer, veers frequently into television mode, as if playing to a studio audience and pausing for a laugh track. And Santiago-Hudson can’t do much with his unsympathetic character.
As over-written as it is, Diamond’s script has enough amusing lines and perceptive observations — particularly about the behavior men learn or reject from their fathers — to keep it engaging. But her characters don’t exactly draw you in, and neither these actors nor the staging help.
Notes in the published text specify: “The décor is tasteful, casual, comfortable and extraordinarily expensive in its utter lack of pretension.” David Gallo’s set instead suggests fusty ostentation. Aside from the visual disharmony between the beachy kitchen and patio and the heavy mahogany foyer and living area, the jagged cutaway that keeps both main playing spaces in view is just plain ugly. The clunky scenes of simultaneous dialogue in two rooms notwithstanding, the play might possibly have worked better with its three main environments on a turntable set.
Leon’s direction lacks the nimble touch to modulate smoothly from bantering through bickering to the charged confrontations of the final scenes. And in a play that runs an attenuated two hours 40 minutes, producer Alicia Keys’ transitional music is used too liberally, more often calling attention to itself than serving the dramatic tone.
